Duel caught me off guard because I thought it will be a straight cop and crime drama. So, I was not prepared when it broke my heart into pieces with its main conflict of a father seeking the abductor of his sick daughter who happens to be a human clone supported by a big conglomerate company. It will not sink in right away to engage you, but once you patiently cross the 6th episode, you will forget what your current real-life problems are, and would just want to reunite the hero and his beloved child. Highlights Insanely Dark But Engaging Plot If told in scientific form, the detective’s daughter Soo Yeon, is like the sun in the solar system. Moving around her are the heroes and villains. The mystery-solving plot unravels the details of the story that are traced to prohibited medical research of 24 years about human cloning and a sort of cure-for-all vaccine. The story progresses as the serial killings of an evil clone happen. The movements of the plot are dependent on the quest to save the young girl until the discovery of the holy-grail-human-cure. It notches a more ardent contention for the dying people who need her to survive. The ambitious medical plot about stem cell therapy and human clones seem awkward to a crime drama, but the moment your attention is settled to the story, your brain will become busy processing the what-ifs and OMG’s of the story. Staunchly Intense Tone The frantic pace and overwhelming tone will exhaust you every episode, but you end up craving for more. I tend to avoid problem-laden stories, but Duel breaks the exception easily as it made me see the importance of reaching the end of the tunnel for everyone in the story. I was so drawn in all the characters that the fight scenes full of blood spatters, broken bones and ripped flesh did not make me flinch as the episodes go on. In the waning moments when the coveted vaccine has been found, I really had hair-tugging moments on why the story always chooses the complicated road versus the easy one. But then, the strength of the story is how the characters have good and evil resonance of their own that justify their growth in the story to the point of ludacris and selflessness. Superb Male Cast Portrayal Given that the action-packed drama will cater more to the male audience, I really enjoyed the male dominated cast because even with the heart-wrenching moments, the tear-inducing scenes are kept nicely at a bearable level. It made me cry without tears because of the detective’s love for his daughter, as well as the righteous clone’s fears of not being able to belong. Yang Se Jong is a revelation. For a barely new actor, he is sensitive to his shifting roles. I can only imagine the focus he had to work on in giving two facets of distinct characters. Jung Jae Young showcased his seasoned acting to a point where I want to beg the writer to stop hurting him. I won’t say that the female cast are lousy in the story. They supported well, but it’s the boys that really held the story in place. Impeccable Finish Line Race Duel gives a satisfying closure after wrapping neatly all the conflicts presented in the story. After the last episode, I heaved a sigh of content because it made me feel like I was one of their team members in that neverending pursuit to destroy the evil villains. The heroes and villains in equilibrium give a gripping pendulum sways as the characters push the momentum of the narrative. I got what I never asked for in Duel, and that really made me happy. Drawback Fight Scene Gaps While chasing the fugutives, the prosecutor’s team with the police reinforcement have tracked them on the crime scenes, but they are always a step behind in the entrapment operations. The execution of getting through the sneaky villain and the people behind him are always failing. My patience was tested on the warehouse hostage exchange scene because I can’t believe they were outwitted again. I know that it’s possibly because the story was just hitting halfway and I’m exhausted as they really live up to the “chase thriller drama” tag, but come on, it was not logically possible for the villains to slip through a band of detectives. There are evident gaps in the execution of the fight scenes. Duel is bloody and brutal in the brawl scenes, but the characters seem to be invincible with their ability to regain their strength for almost every episode of dark and twisted exchange of nasty squabble. Like they can take a two hour nap and will be back in full health after altercations like that of MMA bouts. That, for me is unbelievable. Recommendation Duel is the second sci-fi drama that will enter my personal favorite list for 2017. I’m also surprised how it consumed me, and how I stayed patient in reaching the culmination of the story. Probably it is because Duel made me feel like I am part of the team and we are all in that moment together. *wink If by any chance you want a real drama with pounces of action elements and inventive sci-fi plot, then by all means consider this excitingly crafted drama. Duel secures important messages about how human greed is neverending. It is a disease that will corrupt someone to the highest level of selfishness. The drama also gives a lasting impression on the kindness that makes a person. It depicts a human clone with a heart bigger than what a real person could ever have. There are lessons on love, friendship and family that are neatly interjected in the story. Yes, it is amazing how they were able to blend that given the rip-roaring battle scenes. Sinopse e comentários Jang Deuk Cheon Jung Jae Young é chefe de polícia e detetive, mas se encontra apreensivo, preso em um enredo trágico sua filha, Jang Soo Yeon Lee Na Yoon, de apenas 12 anos, havia sido sequestrada e o sequestrador solicitou a quantia de 1 milhão de dólares para realização da troca. Após reunir o dinheiro, Chefe Jang correu para reencontrar sua tão amada filha. Acontece que a Promotora Choi Kim Jung Eun, responsável pelo caso, colocou na sacola 500 mil reais em dinheiro falso. Eu afirmaria que ele vive apenas por ela, por isso, após Soo Yeon ter sido sequestrada, ele ficou completamente desesperado. Os dois viviam juntos e, mesmo que os remédios da Soo Yeon custassem caros, o Deuk Cheon nunca deixou que a menina ficasse triste e batalhou muito para manter a casa. Mas, o jovem afirmava que não sabia de nada e que não tinha recordações, o que deixou o Chefe Jang sem direção. Aparentemente, ele estava agora com um jovem sem memória, a filha desaparecida e ainda havia encontrado outra pessoa exatamente igual ao jovem que ele tinha conseguido prender. Ou seja, um caos total. Para tentar organizar a situação e chegar ao menos próximo de saber onde Soo Yeon se encontrava, aquele jovem suspeito sem memórias era sua melhor aposta. Por isso, o Chefe Jang resolveu manter o suspeito por perto. Aos poucos, o jovem poderia ir recuperando sua memória e eles talvez encontrariam o verdadeiro culpado. Na verdade, para encontrar a Soo Yeon, o Chefe Jang seria capaz de fazer qualquer coisa e a história se encarrega de tornar sua vida um inferno. O roteiro faz com que o chefe Jang muitas vezes escolha entre o seu dever como policial e a sua filha. Lee Sung Joon Yang Se Jong Um jovem misterioso que foi encontrado no Terminal de ônibus pelo Chefe Jang. Ele é levado imediatamente preso por ser exatamente igual ao sequestrador da Soo Yeon. O Sung Joon aparentemente não tem memórias do seu passado e é encontrado com uma faixa na mão, que o tornava mais suspeito, já que o sequestrador da Soo Yeon havia se machucado no momento do crime. Mas, ele nega desesperadamente que tinha levado a criança e também vai mostrar disposição em recuperar suas memórias para resolver a situação. Esse coitado foi muito espancado. Que pena que eu tive dele viu. O Chefe Jang foi o único que viu o outro exatamente igual no Terminal, por isso acabou acreditando um pouco em suas palavras. Lee Sung Hoon Yang Se Jong Na verdade, nós também logo percebemos que há duas pessoas exatamente iguais, mas com expressões completamente diferentes. Enquanto o Sung Joon foi encontrado desprevenido no Terminal de ônibus, o Sung Hoon estava pronto para fugir com seu capuz preto e sorriso debochado. Então, logo imaginamos que o que foi preso não é o verdadeiro culpado. Mas, o que seriam os dois? Não pareciam se conhecer e tudo aparentava ser um pouco confuso para Sung Joon também. É bom que vocês não leiam muito por aí e não estraguem as surpresas. Confesso que já imagina porque as sinopses nos sites mais populares estão cheias de spoilers e como é um drama de ficção científica acabamos tendo uma noção. Então, no início não sabemos nada sobre o Sung Hoon, apenas que ele estava se divertindo muito com tudo. Ele injeta algumas vacinas em si mesmo frequentemente e escutou os noticiários sobre a seleção da Soo Yeon para o tratamento. Eu nem tenho palavras para descrever a atuação do Yang Se Jong em Duel. Na mesma cena, no mesmo momento, eles pareciam pessoas completamente diferentes. Ele conseguiu interpretar dois personagens opostos de forma brilhante. Eu fiquei encantada e deixo aqui os meus aplausos. O grande destaque do ano. Choi Jo Hye Kim Jung Eun A, essa promotora me infernizou no início. Eu odiava o jeito arrogante dela e como ela lidava com tudo. O mais importante para ela era resolver imediatamente o caso, não importando igualmente a vida da criança. Ela é uma promotora muito reconhecida no Ministério Público, mas logo percebemos que, assim como eu, o Chefe Jang não gosta muito dela. Existe sim, um passado cruel entre eles que a história também nos revela aos poucos. Então, conforme a história foi passando, eu acabei me acostumando com ela. No fim, a promotora Choi age de maneira estúpida e irresponsável, mas é um mal necessário. Ryoo Mi Rae Seo Eun Soo Seo Eun Soo esteve em Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim assim como o Yang Se Jong e agora está atuando em My Golden Life. Ela é realmente uma atriz surpreendente e carismática. Yang Se Jong e Seo Eun Soo em Romantic Doctor; Os dois em Duel. A Mi Rae é uma jornalista que vai desempenhar um papel fundamental na trama. Ela encontra o Chefe Jang e o Sung Joon e, também por suas razões, acaba os ajudando em algumas situações. A sua mãe morreu recentemente e ela busca informações sobre seu passado. Ela é uma personagem simpática, determinada e corajosa. Participou de cenas incríveis e, com certeza, somou muito ao enredo. Há, ainda, outros personagens como o sunbae da Mi Rae, Kim Ik Hong Kim Ki Doo. Os policiais da equipe do Chefe Jang e muito fiéis a ele Na Soo Ho Choi Woong e Lee Hyung Sik Yoon Gyung Ho. O detetive e amigo do Chefe Jang, Park Yoo Shik Lee Chul Min. Os assessores da Promotora Choi, Na Song Yi Lee Ye Eun e Jin Byeong Joon Jo Jae Ryong. Todos contribuem de alguma forma na tentativa de resgate da Soo Yeon e eventual resolução do caso. Por fim, a nossa encarnação do mal, filha de peixe, peixinho é ?, Park Seo Jin Jo Soo Hyang. Considerações Finais Quando eu iniciei Duel eu imaginei que fosse um pouco mais dinâmico. Alguns episódios perto do fim eram longos e cheios de diálogos. Por óbvio, não comprometeu meu envolvimento com essa história única e maravilhosa, mas é bom pontuar isso para que vocês não esperem por ação o tempo inteiro, caso decidam assistir aí. É um drama inteligente e muito bem escrito. Duel é um drama de ficção científica cheio de reviravoltas e imprevisível. Quando eu li a resenha da Lu MDUGS, eu comentei que seria facilmente conquistada e fui. No início, a história gira em torno do Chefe Jang e sua busca pela Soo Yeon. Eu ficava pensando como eles iam desenvolver 16 episódios em torno disso. Mas, de fato, não é só isso e a história muda de rumo algumas vezes sem a gente perceber, quando eles lançam novas informações e entrelaçam tramas paralelas que sempre estiveram aí no plano de fundo. E pensem em alguém muito desesperado para encontrar a sua filha que fala ainda um monte de palavrões por minuto porque esse é o Chefe Jang no início de Duel. Depois que ele encontrou um pouco de esperança no Lee Sung Joon, o Chefe Jang acalmou o coração parou um pouco com a gritaria e violência gratuita, mas, com certeza, nunca desistiu de procurar pela Soo Yeon. Também como eu disse acima, o Chefe Jang faria qualquer coisa para recuperar sua filha, inclusive utiliza o Sung Joon apenas como uma ferramenta. Aos poucos, eles vão se conhecendo melhor e o Chefe Jang vai percebendo a pessoa compreensível e altruísta que é o Sung Joon. Eu amei, de coração, acompanhar o crescimento da relação entre esses dois personagens. Chingus, a Soo Yeon é incrivelmente fofa e amável. Sério, não tem como não amar a Soo Yeon, por sua inocência, carisma e compaixão. As cenas em que ela apareceu foram apaixonantes e reconfortantes. Ela é uma lição de vida por si só. Eventualmente, o Sung Joon vai ligando algumas situações sobre o seu passado, com seus lastros de memória. Nesse ponto, o foco do drama já não era tanto a relação de pai e filha, mas o mistério que envolvia pesquisas ilegais e testes assustadores. Queria pontuar que, com certeza, o grande destaque de Duel foi a impecável atuação do Yang Se Jong. Sem dúvidas, digno de todos os elogios desse mundo. O Sung Joon sempre pensa nos outros antes de si mesmo e tem um sorriso caloroso e acolhedor. O Sung Hoon é extremamente vingativo e se diverte fazendo mal aos outros. Eu não usaria a frase “um é do bem e outro é do mal” porque isso é um pouco relativo. Mas, eles são completamente diferentes, praticamente o oposto um do outro e a história não precisava me dizer quem era quem porque eu conseguia notadamente diferenciar, mesmo que estavam lado a lado, mesmo em situações aleatórias, era notável a diferença entre os dois. Os olhares, os sorrisos, tudo era diferente, apesar de serem interpretados pelo mesmo ator. Isso é mérito da brilhante atuação do oppa Yang Se Jong. Duel traz lições sobre humanidade, de amor entre família e alguns assuntos super delicados são abordados com maestria. A cada episódio, nos aproximamos mais da verdade por trás de tudo. Também não tem romance. Eu apenas queria que eles tivessem dado um pouco de espaço no final para trazer uma abordagem diferente sobre as ações do Sung Hoon. Estou comentando de modo geral para não trazer spoilers, mas o Sung Hoon deveria ter sido melhor compreendido na minha opinião. Acreditem, todos foram vítimas naquele contexto. O final de Duel é maravilhoso e, com certeza, eu nunca esperei um final diferente. É só que tudo aconteceu um pouco tarde para o Sung Hoon e eu me senti triste por ele. Resumindo A trama de Duel é incrível, inteligente e única, a atuação é fantástica, a música é boa, os personagens são envolventes e a história é cheia de reviravoltas. Drama super recomendado para os apaixonados por ficção científica, com porções de ação, suspense e drama. Não percam essa obra! ^{Finalmente depois de muito tempo voltei por aqui, pra falar de um drama que terminou já faz um tempinho mas foi tão maravilhoso que tinha que vir aqui surtar com vocês! Em meio a uma temporada de dramas que começaram muito bem e me decepcionaram no término, Duel teve um excelente desempenho do começo ao fim. Duel tem uma história original e diferente, com muita emoção, tensão e surpresas, o drama é mais uma excelente obra da OCN neste ano. O elenco é sensacional, mas o destaque é Yang Se Jong, que deixou os dorameiros apaixonados por sua atuação impecável em seus dois personagens do drama. Duel 듀얼 Episódios 16 Emissora OCN Ano 2017 Sinopse Jang Deuk Cheon Jung Jae Young é um chefe de polícia. Em casa ele é um pai dedicado e bondoso. Ele conhece um clone humano e acaba envolvido em um caso chocante. Antes de tudo, preciso falar que essa história é muito nova no meio dos dramas coreanos, raramente há histórias de clones, e da forma que Duel foi feito, não vi nada parecido mesmo. A temática já me agradou assim que comecei o primeiro episódio e só foi ganhando força ao longo do drama. O roteiro é muito bem conectado e nos mantém presos em todos os momentos. A teoria apresentada na história é bastante interessante e a trama equilibra bem os momentos de tensão e emoção. Fiquei feliz como roteirista e diretor conseguiram retratar tão bem a trama complexa e densa que é Duel. Eu ficava tensa, daqui a pouco com raiva, e segundos depois já estava chorando sim! e depois sorrindo inocente sem saber que daqui a pouco tudo ia ficar tenso de novo… e bom, era um ciclo delicioso de emoções que poucos dramas conseguem proporcionar. Simplesmente uma obra de arte! De longe, um dos meus preferidos da OCN. Tudo começa quando a filha de Jang Deuk Cheon Jung Jae Young é sequestrada. Ela tem leucemia e acaba de ganhar um tratamento novo e único que pode salvá-la. Ele é um policial e a princípio, não entende os motivos do sequestro. Com a ajuda dos colegas de trabalho ele vai resgatar sua filha mas se depara com o suspeito do crime e outro homem em cena que é exatamente igual o suspeito. Eles são Lee Sung Joon e Lee Sung Hoon Yang Se Jong. Jang Deuk Cheon percebe que as personalidades deles não são nada parecidas. Aos poucos o detetive e a polícia se envolvem num caso mais complexo ainda que envolvem clones, doenças e experimentos. Lee Sung Joon é o “clone bom” como eu o chamava até descobrir os nomes. Ele é um homem que simplesmente aparece em cena sem memória, sem saber nada sobre sua vida nem o porque dele estar ali. Lee Sung Hoon é o “clone mau”. Um homem cruel e revoltado e ele sim foi o “verdadeiro” sequestrador. Não é spoiler! Tá no primeiro episódio! Se me perguntassem no começo de Duel qual dos clones era meu preferido eu diria logo que era o Sung Hoon, isso mesmo, o malvado Mas ao longo da trama pude enxergar o quanto o Sung Joon foi maravilhoso e não só pelo fato de ser “bom” mas pelo personagem ter crescido demais. A verdade é que eu amava os dois e me emocionei e senti muito por eles. Queria que ambos tivessem um fim digno e que todo sofrimento fosse recompensado de alguma forma. E eu já falei no começo do post, que o elenco foi ótimo, mas Yang Se Jong, minha gente, foi sensacional! Eu não imaginei que fosse admirar tanto esse ator que começou com um personagem secundário e levinho em Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim mas se destacou tanto nos dramas seguintes. Em Duel ele foi maravilhoso interpretando dois personagens completamente opostos. No começo eu sempre fico com uma sensação estranha, porque eu sei que é o mesmo ator interpretando dois personagens mas em Duel eu esqueci logo desse detalhe e fiquei tão envolvida que nem lembrava que era um ator só, ainda mais quando estavam os dois em cena e era tão perfeita a junção da atuação com a produção. Yang Se Jong, meus parabéns, você é maravilhoso! A história não para só nesses três não. É muito maior do que você possa imaginar, e eu tenho medo de entrar em detalhes e soltar spoilers, por isso só digo uma coisa é tudo muito envolvente. Quando você acha que está entendendo alguma coisa aparecem outros personagens que tornam a trama toda confusa de novo. Sem falar nas várias teorias, nos fatos que vão nos surpreendendo aos poucos na história. Nada óbvio, o que eu adoro. A filha do Jang Deuk Cheon é Jang Soo Yeon Lee Na Yoon, uma menininha encantadora que facilmente conquista as pessoas a sua volta. Ficava preocupada sempre que ela estava em perigo mas adorava o fato dela ser uma menina inocente e ao mesmo tempo corajosa, que sempre que estava com o sequestrador plantava um pouquinho da sua doçura nele. Eu queria que ela fosse curada logo tanto quando o pai. Eu também senti muito e torcia por ela. Soo Yeon não passou sua vida presa dentro de um laboratório, nem sofreu tudo que os clones sofreram, mas passou muito da sua infância em médicos e hospitais e merecia igualmente ser feliz. Fiquei encantada também pela Ryu Mi Rae Seo Eun Su, uma personagem tão amorzinho. Uma repórter que quer descobrir mais sobre o passado da sua mãe e acaba se envolvendo nos casos. E ela simplesmente sem questionar muito começa a ajudar “dois estranhos” que precisam de ajuda. E ela dá casa, carro, comida e muito apoio. <3 Além disso, parte para os planos junto com eles e acaba tendo muito importância na história. Ela é uma fofa! Choi Jo Hye Kim Jung Eun é a detetive responsável pelo caso de sequestro da Soo Yeon e claramente se envolve no caso dos clones também. Mesmo com o mesmo objetivo de resgatar Soo Yeon e resolver o caso, os ideais dela são opostos aos de Jang Deuk Cheon o que cria ainda mais conflito na trama. Não é das minhas personagens favoritas, mas gostava da inteligência dela e do modo como lidava algumas coisas. Já falei muito o quanto os personagens do Yang Se Jong foram ótimos, mas também quero destacar o perseverante Jang Deuk Cheon, que diante das situações terríveis que vivenciou permaneceu firme. Claro que boa parte do seu ânimo de continuar foi por causa da sua filha, o tanto que esse pai queria protegê-la e salvá-la foi tocante mas ele se envolveu de tal forma com o Seung Joon e a Mi Rae e o amigo mala dela, rsrs que eles formaram um belo time. Nos poucos momentos que dava pra respirar normalmente no drama, eu até dava sorrisinhos com eles, que acabaram formando uma linda família. Eu queria falar de outros personagens e certos pontos da história, mas não vou dar spoilers aqui. Só saibam que a história só melhora a cada episódio e vai surgindo contas que me deixaram extremamente curiosa e envolvida . Todos os episódios são muito dinâmicos e cheios de reviravoltas. Eu achei que sofreria muito no fim do drama, e de fato sofri sim, com muitas coisas que aconteceram e principalmente por ter acabado um drama tão bom! Mas o final foi bem feito, fechadinho, bem explicado e teve seus momentos de deixar a gente feliz também. Vale super a pena! Como de costume, OCN sempre arrasa nas produções de ação, toda parte “técnica” do drama também está de parabéns. A trilha sonora não tem muitas músicas, mas é muito marcante, principalmente a dramática Nightmare do Mad Soul Child. As cenas do vídeo abaixo são dos primeiros episódios Enfim, Duel foi excelente e recomendo pra fazer maratona porque a curiosidade de ver o que vai acontecer é grande demais.
